What is coaching?
Coaching is an interactive process between a coach and a client, where the client is coached
to move from where he/she is now to where he/she wants to be. A client may be coached to
move forward in any area of his/her life, including career, relationships, motivation and time
management. This personal type of coaching is life coaching.
Business coaching concentrates on challenges faced by business. Here the coach works with
business people in areas such as setting up a business; and developing strategies for
improving profits, productivity, and relationships in the workplace.
How does coaching work?
Coaching may be done face-to-face or via telephone. Many busy clients prefer telephone
sessions. Depending upon the agreement, coaching sessions are usually once each week and
are of 30-60 minutes duration. During the session, goals are set and specific action steps are
decided upon. The following week is spent implementing those action steps. The next session
reviews the progress being made, as well as looking at new issues and goals.
This ongoing, pro-active and supportive relationship usually ensures the client's success.
